What investor profiles do the portfolios offer?
When you first sign up, you'll fill in a questionnaire to use the service. Your appetite for risk will be determined, as well as your financial goals and time horizon for your investments. There are five different investor profiles, each matching to a different portfolio. Through the Curvo app, you can invest in a diversified portfolio. Curvo is a tradename of NNEK, who is an investment firm licensed by the Dutch regulator (AFM). The underlying investment philosophy is different than that of traditional banks. We believe in passive investing through index funds. But banks have historically offered only actively managed funds. When you first start, you are asked a series of questions to better understand you and your goals. This is all done through the Curvo app and roughly takes six minutes. Once you have completed those first steps, verification needs to happen on NNEK's end, who manages the investments. This usually doesn't take longer than a day. It's great that you're already saving for your pension. We think the Belgian pension saving plan is a good system thanks to the tax break. However we see a couple of limitations: Your contributions are capped at €1,350 per year. Pension saving funds are constrained in how they invest your money. This puts a limit on the return of your investments. Investing through the Curvo app is a good option if you wish to save more than €1,350 in a year, or if you seek a higher return. Keeping your personal information up to date is essential for having a Curvo account. Your itsme account is linked to your Belgian eID card. When your eID card expires, your itsme data becomes outdated. In that case, we'll ask you in the Curvo app to update your itsme account. No. You can only access Curvo through the app which can be downloaded for iOS and Android. At the moment, we have no plans for developing a web version that you can access from your computer.Few readersHow do you define "long-term" investing?
Every investment carries risk. Even though the global economy has been growing consistently over the last 100 years, there have been periods of downturns where returns were negative (think about the corona crisis!). To iron out temporary fluctuations in the markets and end up with a positive return, it's important to invest for the long term. Joint accounts are not yet available. It's something we're actively working towards, and as a first step we plan to launch the ability to share your portfolio view with your partner. For now, you can open an account only in your own name. We are looking to add this functionality in a future update of the app. In the meantime, you can invest for your children via the multiple portfolios option. We understand that not everyone has a first name, and we know this can be frustrating when trying to sign up for financial services. Currently, our system requires both a first and last name to create an account. This is due to regulatory requirements that we must follow as a financial service provider.
